3 Common Mistakes That Are Damaging Your Copier

Business Blog

You probably know that your office copier is an expensive piece of equipment, so you probably do what you can to keep it in good shape. However, there is a good chance that you are doing things to damage your copier without even realizing it. Make sure that you avoid these common mistakes so that you can help prevent the need for copier repair or replacement.

1. Placing Your Coffee Cup or Drink On Top of the Machine

There's a good chance that you've placed your latte or your soda on top of your copier while making a copy, but doing so can be harmful. The condensation on the bottom of a cold drink or a small splash of coffee could be all that it takes to ruin your copy machine. It's a good idea to place a small table beside your copier; then, you and everyone else in the office will have somewhere to place their drink while making copies.

2. Wearing Your Diamond Ring

You've probably never thought about it, but your diamond ring is strong enough to cut glass. Therefore, if you're wearing your ring while wiping down the copier or otherwise using it, you could scratch or cut the glass. Make sure that you keep an eye on your ring when you're around the copier to ensure that you don't scratch the glass, or slip it in your pocket for a few minutes so that you don't have to worry about it.

3. Leaving Paper in the Copier

It might seem natural to leave a stack of paper in your copier, but doing so can be harmful. The humidity in the air can cause the paper to swell up and stick together, which can cause troublesome jams. Make sure that you remove the paper from the copier before you go home for the day to help prevent this from happening, and during the humid summer months, consider just feeding paper into the copier as needed rather than leaving it in the tray throughout the day.

Although you might think that you do a good job taking care of your office copier, even simple mistakes can cause damage. These are three things that happen commonly in offices, and they can all cause serious damage to your copier. To make your machine last as long as possible without the need for repair, make sure that you avoid doing these three things each day.
