Telephone Relay: Do You Really Need It And What Are The Alternatives?

Posted by on Aug 31, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Business phone systems include two types–the relay system and the direct-line system. If you have never had a land-line telephone system for your business before, you might be wondering if you actually need a relay system. Here is a deeper explanation of how these two systems work and what your alternatives might be. The Relay System A relay phone system may be automated, or it may require a receptionist’s skills. The calls come in on one direct line, and then the receptionist or the automated system relays them to the person or department that the customer or client wishes to speak to. If you want to cut corners and not hire a receptionist, you can set up an automated system, but you will have to predict the various reasons that would cause people to call your company so that the relay system would have a direction in which to send the callers. Unless your company has grown to encompass more than one location or more than a dozen different departments, a relay system may not be the best option for you. The Direct-Line System The direct-line system provides unique phone numbers for absolutely everyone and every telephone line in your building and/or company. The benefits to using a direct line system is that your customers or clients are able to speak to someone directly about their questions or concerns, or leave a callback message on an individual voicemail box. They know exactly who they are speaking to and who they need to speak with. You can also trace and track calls made with each line, but you will also have to pay for every individual line you buy and use.  Alternatives to Either of These Two Common Systems The only real alternative for a mid-sized to large business is a VOiP option like Skype. For this, you would have to buy a VOiP line with a toll-free number for customers and clients to use, but then it would still have to rely on a type of relay system to get a live person on the computer line to answer. Some people would prefer a face-to-face conversation and enjoy the technology used to make this connection. It is often cheaper than the direct-line system, but only slightly less expensive than the relay system because you have to route the VOiP calls to the next available representative or administrative professional. How To Set Up Bottled Water Delivery

Posted by on Aug 31, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If your family or business drinks the recommended eight glasses of water a day, chances are you go through a great deal of water bottles. Instead of making a trip to the grocery store each week and lugging large packs of water bottles into the house, consider using a delivery service. Not only is this type of service convenient, but it’s also an excellent time saver for those with busy lifestyles. Below is a list of the steps you’ll need to take to set up your bottled water delivery.  Check Prices Create a list of three to five companies that deliver water to your area and call to check each of their prices. This is the best way to get a great deal and to know how much you can expect to pay per bottle. Once you figure out which company offers the most bang for your buck, you can move on to the next step.  Choose a Plan Each company has a list of plans to choose from. You’ll want to tally up how many water bottles your household or office uses on a daily basis and then multiply that by the number of days in your plan. For example, you may decide to have your delivery every two weeks. If your family members consume 12 water bottles in a day, then you’d need to order 168 water bottles for that two week time period. Since water bottles have a long shelf life, you may even opt to have delivery once a month.  Schedule Delivery Depending on the company, you may be able to schedule your delivery on a specific date. Some companies may only be in your area on certain days of the week, while other larger companies are in town daily. A customer service representative will be able to give you the available options, and then you can select the day that is best for you. Keep in mind when making these arrangements that you don’t actually have to be home for the delivery to take place. You are welcome to designate a specific location on your property for the delivery man to place the bottles, such as on the front porch, or by the back steps.  Change Your Order When Needed Unlike many subscription services, you aren’t locked in to a plan. If your family or business grows, all you have to do is contact the company and change your plan to meet your new needs. Changes will take effect the following billing cycle.  For more information and options, talk with a bottled water supplier, such as Absolute Bottled Water...

Three Pieces Of Complimentary Rain Gear You Can Offer Your Customers When It’s Pouring Outside

Posted by on Jul 26, 2016 in Uncategorized |

With the way that rain works, you can never be to sure that it will rain when you go out. Customers frequently go shopping and enter a store or place of business when the sun is shining and come out when it is pouring rain. As a very nice gesture, some places offer their customers and clients protection from the rain, usually in the form of complimentary umbrellas. Here are a few more pieces of complimentary rain gear you can offer your customers in the event that they leave your place of business and it is raining. Rain Ponchos Disposable and reusable rain ponchos are relatively inexpensive, so much so in fact that you could have a large stock of them on hand to give to your customers on rainy days. The complimentary, full-body cover to keep customers and clients dry and happy does not have to cost more than a couple dollars per poncho, unless you also want them imprinted with your business name. Remembering that you provided something for free to keep them dry has a lasting impact on your customers’/clients’ memories and impressions of you. Rain Bonnets/Hats This type of rain gear provides coverage for just your customers’ and clients’ heads, but when you cannot provide them with an umbrella or a poncho, something to cover their heads is better than nothing. The bonnets are generally given to the ladies while the rain hats/visors are given to the gentlemen. Most of them are clear and secure around the head or under the chin. These hats and bonnets are also inexpensive enough that if you give them away for free, and if the clients or customers only use the hats and bonnets once and throw them away, it is not a real financial loss. Umbrellas  If you buy umbrellas by the gross, you can get a basic, two-toned or single color umbrella quite cheaply. If you want, you could reserve the umbrellas for paying customers, but generally you will find it agreeable to buy the umbrellas in bulk with your business logo on them and then hand them out on rainy days as promotional materials. Keep a few boxes of the umbrellas in the office supply closet, and then place a few of the umbrellas in a stand by the door so that your customers/clients have easy access to them whenever it rains. It will look thoughtful and inviting on your part and make your place of business look...

3 Essential Packing Supplies

Posted by on Jul 11, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Packing up your home to move is a huge project to tackle and packing supplies are very important. Having the correct packing supplies can make all of the difference in the world for you and can make moving a much more pleasant and easy experience. This article will discuss 3 essential packing supplies that you can purchase.  Tape Gun  When it comes to setting up boxes and taping them closed, a lot of time can be saved when you use a tape gun. A tape gun is a contraption that allows you to attach the tape to it and then use the gun to dispense the tape. To do this you are simply going to need to place the top of the gun on the box where you want the tape to begin, and then you can use the metal teeth attached to the gun to cut the tape off evenly. Some of these tape guns even come with safety features so that even a child can safely use them to cut the tape without getting hurt. Most basic tape guns are also very affordable, so spending the small amount to purchase one of them is definitely worth the amount of time that it will save you when you are taping all of your boxes.  Protection For Your Fragile Items  When you are packing up your fragile items into boxes, it is important that all of your items are going to be kept safe as the boxes are being moved. In order to do this, you can purchase a variety of different packing supplies to protect them. You can get packing paper to wrap all of your dishes in, bubble wrap to wrap all of your pictures and other fragile items in, as well as packing peanuts to secure fragile objects inside boxes so that they don’t move around. A combination of all of these supplies can also be used to secure multiple fragile items.  The Proper Boxes Perhaps the most basic type of packing supplies that are also the most important are boxes. If you purchase the correct types of boxes for your different items, they are going to be packed more effectively, and moved more safely. For example, long boxes with metal hangers should be used for clothing, and filing boxes should be used to transport all of your important documents. Also the size of boxes should be taken into consideration when they are being filled with heavy objects vs. light objects.  Click here for more information on packing...

Concerned About Your Impending Move’s Environmental Impact? What Are Your Greenest Options?

Posted by on Jun 23, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If you’re planning a household move in the near future, you’re likely being bombarded with internet advertisements and other targeted sales pitches for packing and shipping materials and services — from moving boxes to box trucks. While these advertisements can sometimes be helpful when it comes to determining what you’ll need, those who are environmentally-minded may only see non-biodegradeable waste. What are your Earth-friendliest options when it comes to moving a household of belongings? Read on to learn more about some green technologies that have come to the moving market.  Biodegradable plastic wrap and packing peanuts Traditional styrofoam packing peanuts are great at cushioning and protecting fragile items. However, this styrofoam does not decompose naturally, and your packing peanuts are likely to far outlast any of the items they’re being used to move. On the other hand, biodegradeable packing peanuts made from soy or corn oil rather than crude oil function identically to styrofoam peanuts but can be easily dissolved in water.  By that same token, plastic wrap that has been created with soy (rather than crude) byproducts should break down easily upon disposal and can even be added to your compost pile rather than your normal kitchen trash. Some of these soy and corn plastics can be coupled with a vegetable-based adhesive and used to make biodegradeable packing tape. Making the switch from styrofoam and plastic to vegetable-based oil products should help give you the same level of performance you’d expect from the original versions without compromising your ecology-minded principles.  Rentable plastic boxes  Although cardboard boxes are much more biodegradeable than styrofoam packing peanuts and are often made from recycled material, these boxes do require the destruction of a certain amount of trees to create new cardboard. Using hand-me-down or pre-used cardboard boxes can cut down on some of this waste, but you may find that these reused boxes aren’t quite strong enough for you to entrust them with your more fragile possessions. Fortunately, some moving supply companies have stepped in to fill this gap, offering reusable plastic shipping boxes for rent. This can provide you with an eco-friendly and convenient way to get your belongings from one home to another without requiring you to handle the disposal of dozens (or even hundreds) of cardboard boxes after you’ve finished unpacking. Going this route can also allow you to select from a wide range of sizes, making your move more...

HVAC Systems To Heat And/Or Cool Mobile Homes

Posted by on Jun 2, 2016 in Uncategorized |

When people think of mobile homes, many picture a small furnace in a closet as the heating unit. Although some mobile homes still use this type of furnace, there are other heating and cooling options available – both indoor and outdoor units that use oil, gas, propane, or electricity as energy sources. If you are looking to install a new heating and/or cooling system in your mobile home, knowing how the different systems work and are set up can help you make a practical choice. Furnace and Duct System The duct systems in mobile homes differ from those in stick built homes. The furnace is usually placed right above the supply duct, which is connected to the furnace outlet through a duct connector. Duct work generally runs the length of the mobile home and is made from a light gauge material – usually steel or aluminum. Heated air enters each room in the home by way of registers. Since the duct system in many mobile homes doesn’t include a return air duct system, slots in the furnace access doors – where the filters are located – supply air to the blower. As the air circulates through the furnace, the blower continues to run, blowing heated air into the ducts until the furnace temperature falls below the temperature set on the thermostat. Package System Mobile homes often are heated and cooled by a package HVAC system. All the components of a package system are contained in a single unit installed outside the home. The unit comes put together and ready to run. This type of unit typically is placed next to the skirting of the home with the duct work running underneath the mobile home. Package systems work by blowing hot or cold air through vents in the floor. To determine what size unit you need, check your home’s data plate for the number of BTUs that are required to cool your home. Split Central Air System Ducts that run above the ceiling or under the floor supply forced cold air from a split central air unit. This type of unit has a condenser/compressor that is placed outside. An air handler, or evaporator coil, is located inside the home – usually inside the bottom of the furnace. These systems use the same duct work as the furnace to push cooled air into the home. Mini Split System A mini split system works in much the same way as large a split unit, but the indoor component of the unit doesn’t have to be located in the furnace. An HVAC contractor (such as one from Shakley Mechanical Inc) can mount the inside coil on a wall and run the lines to the outside portion of the unit. An advantage of a mini split system is that the system is less expensive than a full split system and can be used to cool a small mobile home. Heat Pump Some mobile homeowners use heat pumps for their heating and cooling needs. These units exchange warm air for cool air in the summer. During the winter months, a heat pump does the reverse, exchanging cold air for warm air. But if you choose to install a heat pump and live in a region where temperatures regularly fall below freezing during the colder months,...

Five Ways To Recycle All Of Your Office’s Shredded Paper

Posted by on May 12, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If you work in an office that routinely shreds papers or documents using the services of a company like VRC, consider some ways to reuse and recycle this paper before it ends up in a landfill. Five clever ways to recycle your shredded paper are: 1. Pet beds are an easy project that will help recycle piles of shredded paper. An easy way to create a pet-bed for a medium-sized dog or cat is with a plain cotton pillowcase and your recycled paper; fill the pillow case with paper and sew the end closed. Simply discard this bed when it becomes wet or soiled, and make another one! You may also check with local shelters or kennels about donating shredded paper when you have more than you need. 2. Garden mulch can be expensive year after year, so why not reuse shredded paper? It is broken-down by the environment in the same way as compost, so it is an eco-friendly recycling option. Simply spread the paper shreds around the base of plants, trees, or on top of gardens to provide the same drainage and protection that conventional bark-mulch provides. 3. Keep kitty litter fresh longer by lining the cat-box with shredded paper first, and then add the litter on top. This trick will help you spend a lot less on cat litter while also keeping the box fresh and filled for your feline family members. 4. Celebrate something special by tossing colorful shreds of paper instead of rice or purchased confetti. This works well at a wedding or other festive event; use colored paper shreds, if possible, for these celebratory occasions. Plus, shredded paper doesn’t harm the environment! 5. Handmade paper and stationary is easy to make and only requires shredded paper and water. Make your own greeting cards, writing paper, or unique bookmarks by making your own thick, textured paper using the following tips: First, soak your shredded paper in a bucket of water until soggy. Put scoops of soaked paper and water in a blender, working in small batches, until you have a mixture that can be poured on a piece of window-screen. Spread the slurry mixture on the screen in the shape and sizes that you want your sheet of paper. Use a ruler or straight-edge to smooth out and spread the mixture over the screen in a fairly thin layer. Leave the screen for a day or two until the mixture completely dries and forms your paper. It will pull easily from the screen when it is ready to be removed and used! Don’t fill the company dumpster or landfill with shredded paper. With so many recycling options, there are many ways to use these shreds in a useful, functional way. Try these tips to get rid of office waste and to give your shredded paper a second life and...

Adding Fun To The Way A Gift Is Packaged

Posted by on Apr 24, 2016 in Uncategorized |

If you want to make a statement when sending gifts in the mail to your friends or family members, there are several methods in the way you package the items that will be sure to be noticed. Instead of opting for a plain box and wrapping paper to keep the gift intact, try the following step in packaging it. These fun packaging ideas will turn a gift into an eye-catching piece from the moment the package is delivered to the recipient. Cover The Gift With Decorative Paper Before you place your gift inside a box, use decorative paper to keep it from view. This will add to the element of surprise the recipient will get when they open up the box. That extra burst of time needed to unwrap the gift will give them a few more seconds of mystery to endure. Decorate plain white tissue paper by stamping personalized pictures or phrases for the recipient to enjoy. Stamping equipment can be purchased from a craft store and you have the option of using several colors of ink, if desired. Make sure the ink is dry before wrapping the paper around the gift. Seal the gift inside the paper using tape. Decorate The Box Sent In The Mail To make the prospect of receiving a gift even more exciting, decorate the cardboard box you use to house it. This may become a bit tattered while in transit, but the end effect will still be stunning to the person who receives the present. After the gift is wrapped and placed in the box, use packing peanuts to secure it so it does not shift around while in the mail. Tape the package shut and add the address of the recipient. Afterward, adorn the cardboard box with something bold so the recipient knows the contents are special. Use stickers, rhinestones, small bows, or glitter to decorate the box. Do this along every edge of the box so it stands out from the moment it is viewed. Add Instructions Or A Packing Slip Consider printing out a packing slip or special instructions to be placed on the exterior of the package before it is mailed. Print this information on a decorative parchment paper and fold it neatly. Place this paper item in a clear plastic sheet protector and tape it directly to the package. Make sure the open end is sealed in the process. The paper can be as simple as a greeting letter to the recipient or as involved as clues to the contents in the box. Add the words “Open Me First” directly to the plastic so the recipient knows to remove it before tearing into the box to see what type of gift they are receiving.
