The Best Carpets For Your Business

Business Blog

You own a business, and one of your greatest hopes is that your carpet will experience high volumes of traffic! It's important that you choose a carpet that is attractive and durable.

Commercial Carpet Types

There are two basic fibers used in commercial carpets:

Olefin – Olefin is the less expensive of the two commonly used commercial carpet fibers. It makes for attractive carpeting with its wool-like appearance. This fiber is most suited to areas such as offices or regions with light to moderate foot traffic. Carpet made from olefin is stain resistant but doesn't do so well with soiling. The difference being, a spill could cause a stain while heavy traffic causes soiling. Olefin carpets absorb oil and should be avoided in situations where those walking on it may have oil residuals on their shoes. If you are on a tight budget, olefin may be your best option for carpet.

Nylon – Carpet made from nylon is more expensive than that made from olefin. While more expensive, nylon carpet is durable and will last a long time in a commercial setting. Nylon holds its twist well, bounces back when bent or crushed, and resists mold and mildew. Nylon is soil resistant and cleans nicely. Stains may be a problem unless the yarn has been solution dyed. Nylon carpets come in a wide array of colors.

Loop or Cut Pile

Carpet is made from fibers that are woven into loops. This means that all carpet starts out as loop. There are many types, or subclasses, of loop carpet. The fiber loops can be small, medium, or large. Some carpets have a variety of loop sizes which adds texture and variety. The most common commercial carpet is made with small level loops. This makes for a compact, no-nonsense, easy-to-care-for carpet.

Cut pile carpet is created by cutting the fiber loops. Cut pile is often found in homes, but shorter cuts work well in a commercial setting, too.

Caring for Commercial Carpet

No matter what carpet you decide is best for your business, you will need to take care of it. Frequent vacuuming, occasional spot care, and carpet cleaning will be necessary. Have your carpet cleaned by professionals. This ensures you will get the best results. Professionals know what cleaning products are safe to use on individual carpets. They will also be able to recommend products you can use between cleanings to help ensure your carpet has the longest possible life.
